Background

Prince Enobong Uwah, the Secretary to the State Government, was born on January 15, 1969, in Atan Offot village, Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. His education began at Ikot Offiong Mbai Primary School in Cross River State, where he earned his First School Leaving Certificate from 1974 to 1979. He then attended the prestigious Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene, completing his West African Senior School Certificate in 1984. Prince Uwah furthered his education at the University of Uyo, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography and Regional Planning in 1989, followed by a Master’s Degree in Public Administration in 2011.

His early career began as a classroom teacher at Federal Government College, Enugu, under the Nigerian Youth Service Corps from 1989 to 1990. He then joined the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education as a secondary school teacher until 1994. Transitioning to the private sector, he served as the Head of Planning and Strategy Unit/Personal Assistant to the CEO of Petro-Consult Limited, Lagos, from 1995 to 1997. In 1998, he co-founded Hammer Communications, Lagos, and successfully managed the business until 2002.

Public Service and Leadership

Prince Uwah’s commitment to public service saw him appointed as Programmes Officer 1 and Zonal Head under the National Poverty Eradication Programme for Eket Senatorial District in 2002. His leadership roles expanded, serving as Former Deputy President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Nigerian Representative at the Commonwealth Youth Summit, and the United Nations Youth Convention, among others.

His political career includes pivotal roles in campaign organizations such as the Attah/Ekpenyong 2003 Campaign Organization and the Godswill/Nsima 2011 Campaign Organization. He was appointed Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Protocol (Abuja Liaison Office) in 2007, and later, Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources in 2011. During his tenure, he introduced significant initiatives such as the Green Brigade for environmental sanitation and the Policy on Environment for Akwa Ibom State.

In 2015, he was appointed Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, where he delivered key projects including the Gynaecology Ward of the Catholic Hospital at Anua and the DAKKADA Secretariat Annex complex. In October 2016, he was appointed Executive Chairman of the Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), where he led notable projects such as the construction of the Permanent Secretariat and the Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs Chambers.

Recent Roles and Achievements

Prince Uwah played a crucial role in the last two transitions in Akwa Ibom State, serving as the Secretary General of both the Divine Mandate 2019 Campaign Organisation and the Umo Eno/Akon Eyakenyi 2023 Campaign Organisation. These roles positioned him as the administrative head, coordinating all campaign personnel and activities, leading to successful campaigns.

In recognition of his leadership and community service, Prince Uwah was endorsed as the Political Leader of Uyo Local Government Area in January 2022. He is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary Club International and established the Enobong Uwah Foundation, which supports the less fortunate, physically challenged, and orphans.

Personal Life

Prince Enobong Uwah is married to Mrs. Inemesit Enobong Uwah, and they are blessed with three adorable daughters.
